Flamenco artists to watch

When we think of famous flamenco artists our minds often turn to the greats: Camarón de la Isla and Paco de Lucía are synonymous with flamenco. But flamenco is alive and continues to evolve. There’s a wave of promising young artists coming on the scene.

With so many talents emerging its hard to highlight just a few, but let’s give it a go!

These artists are already exceptional, each in their own right, and for the fact that they’ve broken onto the flamenco scene and gained early recognition.

Here’s my list of the top young flamenco artists to watch.

How we select emerging artists

Success doesn’t usually jump out from nowhere. It’s hard to forge a career in any arts scene but particularly in flamenco. Young flamenco artists gaining visibility show up with energy and ambition in festivals and competitions.

Emerging artists are those who are already gaining press coverage, winning awards and appearing in series such as the annual Suma Flamenca Joven — an event celebrating emerging flamenco talents under 30 as part of Madrid’s Suma Flamenca Festival.
